Antioxidants and Cancer
It would be wonderful to be able to tell you that the
cancer problem has been solved by antioxidant research. Regrettably I
can't. The significance of free radicals in relation to cancer is less
clear than in the case of arterial and heart disease, and, sadly, no
breakthrough has yet been achieved. Nevertheless, an enormous amount
of research is going on to see how the risk of cancer is affected by
the blood levels of the antioxidant vitamins. These studies have shown
that there is a strong association between diet and cancer and have
highlighted the kind of diets most likely to protect against cancer.
This is a self help matter in which knowledge and the determination to
act on it can make a world of difference to us all.
